Sterling Silver Paisley Filigree Band

Sterling Silver Paisley Filigree Band is an intricate, ornate, artisan crafted sterling silver ring that our designers had created in Ankara more than 3 years ago.  The first sample takes about half a day for an artist with 10 years experience to finish. The intricate structure of the band shows how the artist have embroidered to create the floral designs that constitute the band. Like most filigree that we make this too is lightly polished and oxidized to bring out the luster of the silver and give it an antique look.

Filigree is the art of embroidery with metal thread. It is similar to embroidering lace except with metal thread. It is an art that has been developed and excelled in Southeastern Turkey in the last two millennia by Assyrian Christians. A unique combination of traditional filigree techniques with modern sensibility is the secret of our designs.

Story of Paisley

Paisley design is a droplet-shaped vegetable design that had originated in Persia. However it derives its name from Paisley, a small town in West Scotland. Paisley, was the center of textile, where modern paisley designs were produced. The design is mostly associated with Zoroastrianism, because it resembles to a bent cedar tree; a tree that prophet Zarathustra planted in paradise. The bent tree symbolizes the resistance and strength against life forces. In Persia, this particular design was used in royal garments, and crowns, as well as textiles that was used by the public. When the paisley motif had arrived in the west, its meaning and usage was slightly changed. For example, in Baltic States, it was worn to guard against the evil forces. The pattern is still popular in Iran and Asia used in textiles for gifts, for weddings and special occasions. Our paisley design is a revised version of this popular motif.
